Authortube and the case of bad writing

They say the first step is to admit you have a problem. Well, here goes. I love Youtube and in my writing journey, I discovered Authortube, YouTube's baby cousin. Authortube over the years

has been quite an inspiration to me as a newbie author. I have gotten a lot of writing advice from people who have self-published and traditionally published their novels and books through this vast resource.

Over the last few months, I have been seeing a lot of videos popping up of aspiring authors and Booktuber's (another baby cousin) commenting or downright bashing Authortubers who they have followed on Youtube for producing, in their opinion sub-par novels and books.

Although I understand their frustration. When we purchase a book, there is a certain expectation that it has to be good. However, in the real world, this is not always the case. The problem I keep hearing popping up is that the writing is horrible and they preach one thing and do the opposite.

Does this mean that the advice we are getting is somehow wrong?

I pondered this question for some time and I came up with this answer. No. at least, not necessarily.

When Authortubers, have huge subscription counts and millions of views, this can be misleading. When they aren't able to deliver in the way their viewers/fans expect. That's when the backlash begins.

Following Authortubers can be entertaining and can also be educational.

Writing is an art. Most artists learn from those who have come before them, following most of the same, tips tricks, and techniques to make good art. Some of us no matter how much we try and study can't draw a straight line to save our lives. Does that mean that we got the wrong advice? No, It just means that we might not have that particular skill or have to work harder to perfect it.

Writing is the same. New authors follow the craft of writing from people that have come before them. But that doesn't mean that they will be good writers, Or will get it right the first, second, or third time.

Remember that we all start somewhere. The best writers had to start somewhere and they kept on writing, kept on building their craft and after years learned what worked and what didn't.

Give your Authortube authors time to build their craft. Some may be better at it than others. But give them time.
